Splitting and wear through along joints, but firm, likely repaired; hinges somewhat roughly repaired; signatures sprung; page 263 with closed 3 inch slice at bottom leading corner slightly into text block; scattered foxing lower margins p. 262 on. Ownership name top leading corner front pastedown [R. McMurray, Manchester]; also written in pencil top margin of title page. Inscribed " To My Mother, from her ever affectionate son, 30 June 1851, The Author." Holding together as serviceable example of a scarce title, and after all his first book, inscribed to his mum.
