1 Boyd, R. W., et al. The Floriau Claim.
[Washington]: [c.1852]. Old call number label on front board, no other library markings; title darkened, else near fine condition.
[1] title,15 pp.; original sheets; bound with cloth tape into later stiff gray card boards with red cloth back.

Surveyor General Boyd, reports his opinion as to the extent of the claim of C. J. B. Floriau claim in the South Eastern Land District of Louisiana, as made by A. F. Rightor, in 1839. Traces the claim to its origins in 1755 and subsequent grant in 1763 and discusses relevant legal aspects of the land grant vis a vis the Treaty of Fountainebleau, the cessation of Louisiana to the United States in 1805 and related acts as well as Supreme Court Decisions. The report is acknowledged by General Land Office Commissioner, John Wilson who furthers the matter, stating in part: "The instigators of this bill before Congress have no other foundation for their demand but the fraudulent and incorrect survey by Rightor . . . [This Rightor, a few years later, was deprived of his commission as deputy surveyor for the district of Louisiana, in consequence of repeated frauds in his official conduct].".
