Wilbur Coleman Tuttle, 1883 - 1969. Born in Glendive, Montana Territory. "My education was all garnered in a Montana cowtown school, where you stayed until the seats got so short that you grew callouses on your knees. No graduation - you quit." Tuttle worked as a sheepherder, cowpuncher, salesman, railroader, forest ranger, baseball player and manager. Became a freelance writer of fiction, mainly Westerns, beginning 1915. Served as President of the Pacific Coast Baseball League, 1935 - 43. A New York Times critic once described Tuttle as " a Westerner from the Montana ranges who gets into his writing the spirit and atmosphere of the wild country he knows and loves." [from Contemporary Authors Online, Gale, 2002].
