This copy inscribed on the front endpaper to Dr. Henry Meade Bland by the editor. 639 pp., incl. appendix, glossary, index; 12mo; original gilt stamped burgundy cloth; top edge gilt; with spots of light rubbing front cover. Laid in, a two part French learning crossword puzzle with entries in pencil. Henry Meade Bland was a poet, philosopher, who published among other works, In Yosemite and other Poems, Stevenson's California, and was long associated with education in Santa Clara County. He may well have been the author of the pencil attempts at the puzzle.
