Count Francesco Algarotti (1712 – 1764) was an Venetian polymath, philosopher, poet, essayist, anglophile, art critic and art collector. He corresponded with many of the leading authors of his time including, Voltaire, Jean-Baptiste de Boyer, Marquis d'Argens, the atheist Julien Offray de La Mettrie. Lord Chesterfield, Thomas Gray, Benedict XIV and Heinrich von Brühl. Here he has turned his pen to a poem erotique, in five parts..

A book of poems. The color illustrations are 3.5" x 2" rather charming renditions of nymphal dancers. According to a preface: "The author of this book, who is now dead, was a real woman, although Winifred Maynard was not her real name. These poems of hers, covering a period of thirteen years in her life . . . were written for herself, and shown to very few people. With one exception, they have been arranged in the exact order of their composition."

Very scarce, and mysterious..
