Printed card laid in: "This is book No. 10 (stamped in blue) of a special edition . . .; 156 pp; oblong 8vo (9.25" x 11.5"); gilt stamped brown cloth; black & white photographs of the collection throughout. Rubbing to spine ends and leading corners. The two arti relics included are pictured on p. 153, among 9 pieces of "Rare Stone Artifacts from Central America."

By 1915 Edward W. Payne, a prominent and wealthy resident of Springfield had assembled over 43 large collections of Indian Relics and at the time of his death in 1932 had the largest collection ever assembled in this country if not in the entire world. Efforts to keep the collection intact failed and it was offered for sale in 1935. A year later the balance of the collection was taken to Dickson Mound in Lewiston, Illinois where the selling continued..
