Helen [Maria Fiske] Hunt Jackson (1830-85). Reared in her native Amherst, Mass., was the same age as her friend Emily Dickinson, who was part-model for the heroine of her anonymous novel "Mercy Philbrick's Choice." Married E. B. Hunt in 1852 after which she wrote under the name of H. H. Widowed by Hunt, she later married William S. Jackson of Colorado in 1875. Best known for her novel Ramona, about the plight of Native Americans. Pages 1-149 on California and Oregon followed by chapters on Scotland and England; Norway, Denmark, and Germany.
