Shortly after her arrival in San Francisco from Ohio in 1868 the author found employment as a book canvasser for two of San Francisco's leading bookseller-publishers, H. H. Bancroft and Anton Roman. Originally published in San Francisco in 1874 her book provides a fascinating account of an intrepid and perceptive woman. (from BCC 200th Book, 198)
